I have wanted on a number of occasions to contribute to this board but have been annoyed about posting here.    I have been reading on these forums for over 1 year and have been mining at 6Ghash for that long as well.

I was just attempting to help answer "what is a clock buffer anyway" thread in the custom hardware sub-forum under mining.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=128286.0

So here ya go.  good luck with anyone actually finding my answer here.

"So just what is a clock buffer?  What does one do, where is BFL likely to be adding them to their product, how many will they be adding, and why that number and location?

From the name, I can imagine some of the things one might do.  I could just google it, but discussing it here sounds like more fun.

Discuss."

This is a clock buffer:

It has nothing to do directly with the ASIC and will not require any "silicon spin" to implement.

It is part of the main board and will require a layout change to the board.
Quick turn for new board could be as fast as a week although 1 month is more likely.

The computer you are reading this on has a clock buffer which branches out the clock to the individual devices. (pci slots etc)
