Blockchain files and wallet.dat in different folders? (not -datadir)

Would like to place the blockchain files in a different location than wallet.dat

How can this be done since "-datadir" (with bitcoin-qt) is not a solution

Is there a client that makes this easier?

I'd *very much* like to avoid symlinks in Windows 7.

shameless bump here.  Anybody know a good way, on Windows, to store wallet.dat in a different location than the block chain files?
