I was talking with some friends of mine who have experience with webstore/eCommerce design about Bitcoin. We came up with the idea of producing an online webstore system with native bitcoin integration, which as far as I know does not currently exist.

If we were to create such a system, would there be people interested in using it? Has anyone attempted something like this before?

there's something like this already for Ubercart, but the more the better. if you design something would be good to have it do dynamic pricing since bitcoin value changes every couple of minutes. or list in USD, then have it dynamically calculate the BTC value on checkout with MtGox json feed..?

I was thinking checking exchange prices off a 7 day moving average to increase stability. Having prices in dollars converted to bitcoin is messy, so it could be more useful to allow separate pricing of goods between Bitcoins and dollars. Similar to how sites that take dollars and Euros don't just do a direct conversion based off the exchange rate.

Ideally, Bitcoin pricing could be independent from dollar pricing in the long run, although I understand that isn't currently feasible.

I'm also interested in the process of taking Bitcoin payments. How do stores currently automate the process when there is no way to generate a charge on the Bitcoin client. Do they have to manually process each customers order?

Take a look at what mybitcoin.com does when you go through their API: you could do something similar.

I have a lot e-commerce experience and I will say building a quality platform is no joke, there is a reason 99.9% of all people choose a boxed option. It MUST have constantly updating pricing to work but you guys know that.

good luck, I'll look forward to seeing the product.
