I'm always interested in ways to drive traffic to web pages, so I've been looking at Bitcoin faucets. I joined one, and the rate of income generation is desperately low, so I suspect this will be a short lived project. Some of the ads were quite interesting, and they were targetted, so I guess they use Google to rotate the ads. Now my question is - how do they calculate the payments? There used to be 4 methods of payment

1. Pay per impression ( you paid every time your ad was sent to a web page)
2. Pay per view (you were paid when your ad was sent to a viewable page)
3. Pay per click (you were only paid when the viewer clicked on your ad)
4. Pay per 2nd click (after clicking on your ad, the viewer had to click on a link on your site)

Also, there used to be filtering software that checked to see that multiple clicks were no coming from the same IP address.

My initial impression is that method 1 is the only one used, and it doesn't matter if the page is on a background window, and therefore it is not viewable. Clicking on an advert doesn't seem to make any difference to the payment total, but reloading the page does. Am I correct in these assumptions?

No, most used method is 3. Faucets which uses Google Ads usually use a blog or a content-based site on the same domain. That is why they are accepted by Google Ads.

Well I have been looking at Moonbit, and that seems to be registering impressions (actually just total page display), and the additions appear to be random, with infrequent small subtractions.

It looks as if someone is reading thisthread, as my "earnings" are going down for some reason. Smiley

Adsense uses CPM and CPC both. Income from Adsense CPM and CPC is based on the content of the site for which how much advertiser pays. Advertiser select Keywords in Adword and bid against other ads. But never cheat with Adsense

It maybe because of bot/proxy/VPN/vps .
drop in earning is only for today or continuously dropping day by day ?

I have some ads on my site that earn me bitcoin. These ads are the same used in lots of faucets, and they are pay by impression, with a plus (I think) for clicks. So it is somewhat mixed.

As a site owner, I think that paid per impression is more fair. You have to allocate some space from your site to show the ad, so that should be paid, even if user do not click. Futhermore, some users will remember the ad and look for the advertiser later, without clicking at the moment.

Well it seems to be ticking up now that I've got rid of Cortana. It's painfully slow, and when I get to the payout level, it will send me one and a half pence in Bitcoin. I don't think I'll be visiting any more faucets after this one. Smiley
