If Paul Vernon took a lie detector test and it indicated he was telling the truth, would you be willing to forgive him and trust what he says again? I think if Vern is going to sell Cryptsy or continue to run it he should take a lie detector test. But only regarding the theft.

I dont think we would see this happen, its lose lose for him really.  The only way he can win is if he is telling the truth and he wants to get serious threats from people off his back.  We saw with mtgox mark k was safe really.

No, there's a reason why lie detector tests aren't allowed in courts and that's because it's pseudoscience.  I think there's probably going to be enough evidence against Cryptsy that such an idea is going to be superfluous anyway.  The fact that they got "hacked" and did nothing about it for something like a year and a half isn't cool even if it were true.

Voted no, in this case it really doesn't matter. I think investigating will some how link this to cryptsy. It will be interesting to see how far the authorities take it. A polygraph won't do shit.

The hack story may be or not be true but... What has that to do with cryptsy closing and leaving a lot of people without their funds? I mean, The hack/theft of sometime ago cannot be used as an excuse to leave people without their money now. If you are stolen is you (the owner of the exchange) who has to accept the loses as it is you (and not the end user) who got stolen.

Forgive him? Who cares about forgiveness, how are they going to cough up 10k BTC to continue operating?

Lie detector or not - it does not change anything. He lost the BTC he was responsible for, he is guilty anyway - defrauded or not.
The fact that Cryptsy was operating even despite such loss and grabbing deposits from people is even more problematic.

As some of us said, lie detector is not the best and not ideal form of finding out the truth. Just forget about it.

It is curious they could have stayed open and started using running profit to pay people back, maybe they wouldn't be able to do this totally but it would be a start. Its 10k coins not 600k.

The remaining coins stashed away in Alt coins is in no way enough to replace the losses and the damage that was done to the reputation of this industry, just like the legacy MtGox left behind after they were supposedly hacked. The other thing is, people do not seem to learn any lessons from the past history.

The problem is, any central storage area for coins will attract a lot of hacker attention and we need to avoid these situations.

Whether 10k or 600k, both are very big in numbers when it is compared to their values in USD...
And what if one is not willing to return even if he is speaking truth???

All this just ruins a bitcoin public image, bitcoin as a safe investment and stable currency..
It is very hard for new investors and adopters to come, when there all they hear are troubles with scams, hackings ..

Should Paul Vernon take a lie detector test?

Okay, why wasn't I sent a memo depicting the invention of a lie detector that goes to infinity in the deepest red known to man? Frankly, I'm getting mighty pissed off for being out of the loop.
