Do you use old mining ASICs/GPUs to keep warm?

I do, and actually it works. Amazingly I thought I wouldn't profit from GPUs and old ASICs but I found out that they are warm as hell so I tested on my bedroom and it really feels good when the heating system is free 

The only con I found is the loud fans spinning 24/7.

No, I use fairly current ASIC to keep my place .... overwarm.
I still had windows open during the recent Arctic Air mass cold snap (1 intake, 1 exaust, both closed down to about 10% of their width with the thermostat-controlled fans in them set to "low") even during the couple of nights it got down into NEGATIVE double-digit (F) temps.


 I haven't turned my furnace on all winter, and don't look like I'm going to need to.

Last year during the winter I ran enough rigs to keep my house warm on all but the coldest nights without using the furnace. In fact, on many days unless it got below 0 degrees outside I had to have one or more windows open to keep it cool enough inside to be bearable. Even though electricity is more expensive than gas is my area for heat, with the dual purposing of mining and using the heat to warm the house it offset the electrical cost somewhat.

This year I am only running a few rigs mainly as hobby and they act as nice space heaters, but I still need to use the furnace routinely for heat and no open windows this year.

Noise and fire hazard need to be balanced against the heating benefit.

Most people should primarily measure electricity and equipment cost vs. mining rewards and value of supporting decentralization.

Noise for me isn't an issue - most of my miners run in a room that I don't use a lot, the rest are in my main "computer" room that's already not-quiet from all the fans in all the computers.

 Fire hazard is pretty much zero - I set the circuits up that all this stuff runs from on 12AWG wiring (spec for 15 amp circuits is 14AWG per the NEC), new breakers and outlets, most of it running from a new breaker box with it's own seperate feed, and ALL the miners are either on metal shelves (S5s) or are in full metal enclosures (A2s and SP20).

 The bloody cords TO the power supplies run hotter than the actual wiring, though not by a lot.


 In some ways I'm really NOT looking forward to moving this summer, gonna lose a fair bit of investment into this place.



 Last summer, I had 4 room fans pulling air into the computer room via various windows, with exaust via one other (largish) window. Never got more than about 5 degrees over ambient anywhere in my place with the massive airflow.
