Hi, I've done some research on this and can't seem to find a project that's already done it. I'm aware there are tip bots on Reddit/Twitter but is there one for the BitcoinTalk forums itself? I noticed these threads a long the way:

https://bitcointa.lk/threads/on-hold-300-btc-make-a-bitcointalk-forum-plugin-to-allow-tipping-via-btc.76130/ - which offered a large bounty (probably not still avail lmao)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=172294.0 - which mentioned the bounty but looks like the project was incomplete / never released?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=201018.0 - project seemed semi-completed but died?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=997972.0 - another attempted project but no news looks

I'm nearly done all the functionality I would need to implement such a 3rd-party bot on the forums for BTC as well as alt coins. Although I initially wrote it for the sake of just saying "hey look I did it" and then sweeping it under the table is this something people would actually be interested in having on the forums?

tl;dr would you like to see a bot on the forums capable of allowing people to tip in alt coins / BTC

Please let me know if I've posted this in the wrong section :x - I wanted to get the opinion of the alt coins first since I think it would be more popular tipping alt coins.

i would love to see a tip bot on bitcointalk the same way it is on reddit especially like DogeTipBot Smiley

you should move this topic to Meta section since it is related to that board (there is a link on bottom left to move)

also try PMing the authors to get their github pages and maybe continue their dead(?) projects or ask why they died in the first place

It's been brought up before and apparently the owner of the forum isn't for it. People around here are pretty fucking jewish (no offense) with their bitcoin and don't give it out  willie nilly. I don't think tipping would go over very well with the users even if it was allowed.

Figured it would get more traction here than in meta.

Authors of previous threads are all inactive, I'm assuming (if anything) projects died due to maintenance / lack of interest but they were less focused on integrating with alt coins. Don't need a fork of existing code, so need to worry about that.

I'm thinking the forum bot would have to entirely noninvasive. Proof of account / account authentication done via PMing, when a tip is issued the receiver and the sender receive a PM.. so no posting would be done by the bot so it shouldn't conflict with moderators. If anything, I guess one mega-thread could be used as a ledger where the forum bot posts / updates a post so if it does post it's at least contained.

It's been brought up before and apparently the owner of the forum isn't for it. People around here are pretty fucking jewish (no offense) with their bitcoin and don't give it out  willie nilly. I don't think tipping would go over very well with the users even if it was allowed.
Is there an actual reason why they're against it? I can understand if the bot is invasive like how it is on Reddit where the bot actually replies to the person tipping (adding an unnecessary comment / "SPAM") to the thread - but if it was strictly done over private messaging I fail to see the harm.

I (personally) don't see it strongly being used for tipping Bitcoin, but I could understand tipping altcoin as a means of promotion, awareness and even memeing (just look at things like TRUMP COIN and RON PAUL COIN). "Here let me tip you some shit coin you deserve it."

It's not just this forum. On Reddit, the only community that tips a lot are the Doge lot. That's because Doge has a super low fee (1 doge, which is about 55 satoshis). So it's easy for them to tip in small amounts that don't cost them much at all but make the recipient feel good. Bitcoin isn't built for tipping or microtransactions.

TALK the bitcointalk.org coin
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=864994.0

if you have an TALK address in your signature, and i appreciate what you've post I tip.  Now I am not going to tip BTC because each send costs 10000satos and may not TX for hours.  (okay there are in house solutions for that but not here yet)

" Bitcoin isn't built for tipping or microtransactions."  that is TRUE  Wink

TALK has no problem acting as a vehicle for implementing a more formal tipping system on bitcointalk.org (should the owners be willing to add the feature to the forum platform).

TALK is perfect for microtransactions, and fast.

So it's easy for them to tip in small amounts that don't cost them much at all but make the recipient feel good. Bitcoin isn't built for tipping or microtransactions.

The tips don't need to be done in the form of microtransactions on the block chain. Let me give you a simple workflow example:

Sign up on 3rd party website by entering in your BitcoinTalk username
Receive private message on BitcoinTalk containing link that lets you set a password on 3rd party site (obviously use different pw then your BitcoinTalk pw).
Generate a deposit address (think Bittrex, Poloniex, etc).
Populate your wallet, and then tip users.
Send a tip to someone by typing #tip alyssa85 0.82 LTC
A user (receiving a tip) would not need to be signed up or have a precreated wallet so it wouldn't require waiting for adoption.
PM could be something as simple as
Quote
Hey alyssa85, you've been tipped 0.82 LTC from (some user).
If you haven't already you can sign up here (insert some link) to claim your tip and get tipping today!
User who receives a tip or has funds on the website could then proceed to redistribute them via tipping or simply withdraw them (this is what would cause a blockchain transaction).

Here's where I said maintenance would come into since any currencies added would require a node daemon to be kept in sync and maintained for each supported coin.

A single contained thread could be used for where the bot makes its posts/updates about who's been tipped what, deposits/withdrawals, a list of all addresses associated with the bot/site for auditing/proof of balance, etc.

ALL of the tipping on Reddit is done off blockchain - and all the coins have a tipbot there, I've even seen a piggycoin tipbot.

Yet doge is the only coin that gets tipped a lot. I don't know if it's psychological - people perhaps feeling shy about tipping 0.0001 BTC but happy to tip 100 doge. But for some reason, only doge seems to have cracked the tipping/microtransaction niche.

I'm aware it's off-blockchain I was just trying to correct the notion that you'd be paying 0.0001 BTC every tip in tx fees (or whatever fee is in the coin being tipped).

While I agree with your statement about DOGE being the only relevant coin that's tipped I believe a big part of that is because there's no tipping available on these forums.

From what I can see there's around (rough estimate, could run a test to give you a more accurate figure) 1 post every 2 seconds... compare that to something like r/bitcoin or any other crypto subreddit and well... there's a big difference. You're going to reach way more people with tipping on these forums then you would Twitter/Reddit imo. I can't see tipping in the form of Twitter/Reddit being useful for any of the alts on Reddit/Twitter but do easily see the potential of them being tippable on these forums.

Lastly, people like big numbers Tongue

bitcoin is being tipped too, check out /r/changetip (i think) there are giveaways there.

but Doge is being tipped only because of the awesome community and a large one.
