Well it's not that simple even though by standard, a fee of .0001 BTC is enough but the calculation is a bit more complicated. Calculation of input and outputs have direct saying into the size of transaction itself, therefor the larger the size, the higher the fee should be, but some think only high amounts need large fees. Usually for fast transactions you should send 60 satoshi per byte and around 30 per byte for normal transaction.

Update:
At first I thought its 0.05BTC but you stated 0.05$ only so a .0001BTC would be enough.

The fee is not based on the amount of the transaction. It is based on the size of the transaction data. Priority is given to transactions with higher fee/byte.

The result is that it could cost you more than $0.05 to send $0.05.

Five dollar cent is about 0.1 milli Bitcoin. You can transfer that with a lower transaction fee, it just takes longer.
Keep in mind that receiving (many) 0.1mBTC transactions means you need a higher fee to send them again, as the small inputs make the transaction larger (in bytes).

For small transactions altcoins are actually a lot cheaper. Doge for instance gets you 220 Doge coins for 5 cents, and the transaction fee would only be 1 Doge. So 0.5% fee vs. around 100% fee in Bitcoin.

My advice: don't make very small transactions in Bitcoin.

There is a fee of 0.0001 set as default fee, You can change it by going to advanced settings and set the transaction fee to anything, BUT I DON'T RECOMMEND DOING THAT. if you use a less fee specially for an extremely small transaction there is a serious possibility it will never get confirmed and it may be dropped.

you should try sending smaller transactions in bulk and using higher fees, it will cost around 4 cents to send a 5 cent transaction.

I have been using XAPO wallet for some time now and have done a lot of sending receiving.
They dont charge anything for sending bitcoins to any other wallet.
So hows that possible when in this thread everyone is saying there is transaction fee.

You can always send without fee, but your transaction might never be confirmed, check network usage before sending, if low, send without fee.

Like mentioned above, bitcoin network no longer useful for transferring small amounts.

What are you talking about? If you don't pay fee, transaction will be orphan, and it will be confirmed, not same second but in day or two.

0,00005 BTC = ~0,023 USD.
but when you have a small mempool like 3000-4000 transactions ... you can decrease at 0,00001 BTC ( ~0,0046 USD ).
