Just thinking out loud here, Obviously the UK is anti-everything, but suppose someone wanted to stay "legal" in the eyes of the law and still have some protection of property/personal, What can we do?
I know the obvious answer is "dont tell them" lol and you would be right, guns are actually quite easy to obtain still, but I just don't want to get caught with one.
Pocket knives/pepper spray, ornamental katakana swords, bows/crossbows, BB guns things like that are all out, so what do we do? any ideas?
The only weapon I can see is martial arts, but thats no good against a gun!

As far as I know there are no laws against ballistics shields, could maybe pick them up from private security companies if you're really desperate for a weapon of some sort, but honestly, I think by the time it gets to the point we need to worry about that sort of thing a lot the police will be fucking useless anyway, look at Europe as an example, I think that's seriously going to affect the EU vote.

I would recommend something like a baseball bat, tire-iron, etc Anything 2+ feet long, and metal is a dangerous weapon... a piece of rebar... You might be able to get away with something like a blow-gun with paralytic darts? I'm not quite sure what the UK laws are on weapons beyond guns&knives are banned... Unfortunately it's pretty ridiculous, it's getting to the point now where they want to be suspicious of people carrying around a kitchen knife, there's very little you can do weapon wise without it being illegal. I can't remember if it's true, but I think the general rule is, if it's something that's 'designed' to be a weapon, then you'll be in trouble immediately, but as Molach said, maybe you could get away with a baseball bat or a tire-iron, but you have to think very carefully, in the UK assault with a weapon carries heavier jail sentences, even if you were just using a baseball bat lying around they could pin that on you. People only realise what a shithole this country is until they actually try living here and I mean genuinely live, not just eat, sleep and earn currency

Also, baseball is not too big in UK, so having a bat is suspect, But a friend of mine got alot of hassle about carrying a cricket bat, He was taking it to a friend who needed one for tryouts, But because he wasn't carrying the full cricket kit (and not in a bag) he was detained until it was cleared up ^^ charges was dropped, but you get the point.

There's a reason why most security guards carry foot long maglites and it's not for the quality of the beam.

Try carry a golf club around, just put on a checkered pair of pants and a goofy hat and nobody would hassle you. Although i would rather be shot than defend myself that way. There's a reason why most security guards carry foot long maglites and it's not for the quality of the beam.
Good point, they used to run over one with a truck in the TV add, imagine what that would do to someones head.

A lot seems to depend on your attitude towards the police if they stop you. They focus on items that you can reach from the drivers seat, this is a result of increasing instances of road rage. A baseball bat in the boot of your car, together with a glove and balls, should be OK. I had a period where I was involved in the metal recycling industry, and I was stopped by the police, and a police sergeant drove my van home with my partner next to him. I had a strong kitchen knife with a 12 inch blade, a stanley knife, a hammer, and a tool for breaking glass windows, all within reach of the driver. Also, I had cooking oil in the fuel tank. The police didn't say anything at all, although everything was very obvious. I was probably helped by by the fact that they stopped me over a licensing technicality, rather than a more serious offence.
If you are interested in self-defence, I would recommend classic Wing Chun Kung Fu. I trained a couple days a week for a few years, and the biggest advantage is that it calms you down, and helps you to avoid conflict. It also means that you can defend yourself if conflict is inevitable.

So are you a crazy person? Have you looked at gun related violence vs population in the UK, like Australia I'm pretty sure your not allowed to own bullet proof equipment without a licence.
Everyone says baseball bat, so buy a cricket bat.
But I really have no idea what planet you are on when you need protection from a gun in the uk, maybe try voting the guys who are trying to increase control?
If you want to fight someone goto a MMA club and sign a waver If you want a gun join the military If you want to be able to defend your self in a fist/weapon fight study martial arts If you want to avoid a fight take up running at your local parkrun event If you want to goto jail buy a weapon of any sort and call it "self defence"
Having a weapon to defend your self is like having a nuke to defend your self, a nuke is a retaliatory item, so is a knife, if you stab someone first then your the problem and you should have never had one, if you stab someone after being stabbed, it did nothing to stop you being stabbed so you may as well never had it in the first place.

Mike Tyson's hands are a deadly weapon if he assaults you with them...

He's probably not from the UK - it's self-defence over here (as you pointed out).

Also, baseball is not too big in UK, so having a bat is suspect, https://youtu.be/XUAYFEQu8T0There's nothing wrong with having a bat of some sort in your house and you could carry it around but you'll probably get stopped if spotted but they'll have to prove you were up to no good with it. Carry one around all the time and in winter isn't going to look very good though not to mention impractical. You'll almost certainly go to prison if you're found with a gun and even pepper spray and tazers are counted as firearms. If you're just wanting to protect your house then get a bat. If you want to defend yourself on the streets then take up boxing or martial arts.

I know a case where a guy was sentenced because according to the judge he was a trained fighter and hands in the use of such person are as deadly as weapons It's true actually, apparently if you're something like above a green belt ( lol -_- I think it might be dependent on how long you've been training, I'd need to look at the exact terminology of the law ) your fists are considered weapons by law somehow, I hate my country so much, I bet even if we had the same shit with europe with religious fanatics roaming the streets and attacking defenceless women they'd still pretty much declare self-defence illegal. People who advocate gun control are absolutely naive and have no idea just how overreaching this stuff can get, I'd rather have all weapons available to me and means of defending myself than risk going to jail over flicking somebody, the people who say the gun control terms will be fair haven't been to europe.
