I wanted to register on Twitter for my very first time. After putting in usernamen and password I getting ask to verify my mobile phone number. There is no visible option to skip this. Is it really mandatory to verify mobile phone number or are there way to skip it? What happens when people from developing country are registering which do not have a cell phone?

A lot of sites have started doing this, for better or worse, but yes you will need a mobile phone number to register. Unfortunately this can exclude a lot of people in developing countries as you describe, but people usually find a way to get a phone number and may even have it as their primary internet device. If you're really stuck, I guess look around for phone verification services and there may be a couple in the trading section of the forum.

It's one of the security measures, you can't skip it. Is it wise to "buy" phone verification service? I'm not sure about it. Actually, I dont know if the problem is that you don't have a mobile phone or you just don't want to leave it for som personal issues or something.

Is this mandatory only for developing countries?
Maybe you can switch your IP with a US IP address and you can bypass this.
I`m not using Twitter, but i plan to create a new account there.

Twitter implemented this mobile verification because a lot of account spammers and bots are taking advantage of the easy process of creating a new twitter. Yes it is mandatory and if you failed to validate your mobile, your email associated with your new twitter will be ban.

Thanks for your responses!

I am thinking about to take the service from a person who offer phone verification. But isn't is a security problem, is it? When I use a other persons phone number for verification then this person could use the phone number to reset the password and occupy the account, right? Or is it possible to choose that the phone can not be used to reset the password?

Nah, the mobile number does not have that power to reset the password. It's just for verification purpose. As long as you have access with your email, and if you are the only person who knows your twitter password then your account is safe.

You can still buy one of those prepaid cards and you can use it for verifying accounts on net.
Im doing this this way and i'm happy. Also i can use the number for calls if needed. It is not wise to give your main number. I don't see this as such big deal.
