Solo mining Startcoin

I fancied trying to mine an altcoin, this is just to understand the process, rather than for profit. I thought I might try Startcoin for various reasons ( mainly political ), and I looked for the relevant link. All I could find was a list of mining pools, nothing about solo mining. Is it possible to solo mine Startcoin?

Never mind - I installed, and sync'd the blockchain, and then I found that if I wanted to do anything I had to register a twitter account. I won't do that, so I've deleted everything. No wonder Max is short of nodes.
