Hello,

I need a little help with the bitcoin client. I'm not very experienced with this whole bitcoin thing, I did two or three transactions with the bitcoin client and it all worked out well so far. Several days ago I bought 20 btc and transfered 15 btc to my empty wallet immediately.

But when i opened my wallet to see if the bitcoins arrived the blockchain had to update first. Since I haven't used the client for a while I knew it would take a long time but the btc will arrive with the last few blocks. After a few days there were about 3000 blocks left, so i started my laptop and the client again, like the mornings before. I was a little late for work, so i didnt look if the programm has opened or not.

Then when i came back from work I saw that it hasn't opened and there was a message saying "Fehler beim laden von blkindex.dat" which means "error loading blkindex.dat". So I searched for a solution in several forums, and found one that said I should try to reinstall the client. So I did and also deleted all files related to the programm. BIG mistake as I know now, because I also deleted the wallet.dat which means the 15 btc are probably gone. Even though I tried different suggestions to get the client started again but nothing worked and after the 5th reinstallation I gave up.

I can't even find a data which is called blkindex.dat on my laptop and neither can i find a solution which fits into my problem. Everytime i try to open the client the message appears, I close it and the client closes itself. My laptop runs with windows vista, I'm the only user of it and theres no virus or sth else, it's just a little slow sometimes, maybe that could be important for my questions.

So what I want to know is:

- Does anyone here know a solution to get the client startet again?

- I tried a programm to restore the wallet.dat but it didnt work, does anyone know a good restore programm which could restore the wallet.dat or is it impossible to restore it?

- This may be a stupid question, but could there be a way to recall the transaction?

I thank you for answers in advance.

Use a lightweight client like multibit or electrum, no blockchain to update. (or at least hope that the new bitcoin client arrives quickly, i am testing it and it download the chain MUCH MUCH faster)

This said...

1)This error is related to the blockchain, sometime the database corrupt and as others said, you need to redownload it, that's why they suggest deleting everything...

2)...but this does not mean deleting wallet.dat! It is where your bitcoins are! Seriously, if you delete your wallet there isn't a lot we can do. And deleting it is not needed to fix the problem

The blkindex.dat and wallet.dat files are in appdata/roaming/bitcoin

Oh and redownloading the whole blockchain with the current client takes days (with the new one takes like 6-9 hours, much less but still a lot)

i've had success occasionally by deleting the database directory and leaving everything else alone (when it gives me that warning)

i'd say maybe 50/50
