Have been reading grumblings on Reddit and other parts about the forums that Coinbase accounts are unexplainably missing coins, transfers have been pending for > 24 hours, and they don't have coins available for sale at the moment.

Anyone know what is going on over there ?

Edit: http://blog.coinbase.com/ reports problems 14 hours ago as of this edit, but problems persist it seems ? Something else going on ?

Edit2: Less sensationalist / alarmist subject line

New service, growing pains.  Underestimated potential BTC feeding frenzy.  Not unusual for ventures to be caught offguard by exponentially growing demand.  Whether they adjust properly quickly will be a good test of future survivability.  Brian Armstrong seems like a capable guy, and given who is backing them I'm sure all fires will be extinguished and improved scalability will be put in place.

Hello and thanks for the heads up on this.  Growing pains is correct.  We are almost done going through and cleaning these up.  Please check your balance and see if it now back to normal.

This was a view bug (the coins were never moved) that resulted from the unconfirmed transactions earlier this week.  Basically a bunch of pending transactions got added which were not processed yet but they were still affecting the balance calculation.

Did a major rewrite of it saturday and pushed it out, so this *should* be a thing of the past.  Definitely made us look bad though as the balance is one thing that should never get messed up.

We are still going through support requests but if you see anything else definitely let us know.  Thank you for bearing with us!

Nice to hear you guys are working on it.

I recommend letting the bitcoin daemon do it's magic and not store any user amounts in the database, that's why account feature exists.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Accounts_explained

You could have avoided completely the double spending and account not synced issues by using the "account" feature of bitcoin an requiring at least 3 confirmations for the coins, if not 6 in your case by being a well known service.
