Hey everyone,
I have been going nuts trying to get an RX 480 mining on any platform. It is a powercolor reference model.
I have been mining eth on autopilot for almost 4 months,, Have had great luck with R9 280X, R9 380x, R7 370s, using Ubuntu 15.XX and QTminer on ethermine.
I check each day to make sure no miners have gone down, and they have been solid this entire time, 36 GPUS on 6 rigs, rock solid.
I picked up an RX 480, and started to build another miner,, currently just using the one RX 480 on a system by itself.
I started with trying to use Ubuntu 16.04 and the new amdgpupro drivers, I got the drivers installed, and then turned off the machine and connected the GPU, fired it back up and I got nothing but a black screen.
I have been reading around all over the place trying to find solutions,, I tried the lunarg Vulkan SDK,, some of the other solutions seemed a bit over my head in linux, I have not been able to find a good tutorial on
this subject. It seems the AMD drivers for Ubuntu arent really working without modification, or maybe Im just doing something wrong.
I eventually gave up, got tired of looking, spent hours on it. I installed windows 10 and decided to try that route. I have the machine running, drivers are installed and the GPU is working. SO then I started trying to use QTminer,,
With Qtminer or ethminer I was getting the error : "No usable openGL device with enough memory present remove the -G flag" (thats not exactly what it said but close enough)
I finally got it mining with QTminer by adding this command: qtminer.exe --opencl-platform 1 -s us2.ethermine.org:4444 -u
It appeared to be normal,, I went to bed,, got up this morning 7 hours later,, checked the miner, it was still mining at 21.8MH, checked the pool and Nothing,, The pool never saw the miner.
No shares turned in poolside.
Which I believe I read somewhere in the million articles that I went through yesterday that Ethminer and Qtminer are not working with the 480 because the AMD drivers aren't playing nice,,,
So now I am trying to learn how to set up configure and use CLaymores miner,, or Genoil,,,
I have found the bitcointalk thread for claymore, but I didn't see a tutorial anywhere there,, or any instructions a noob can follow that make sense,, or aren't so vague because the author already expects the reader
to have a respectable understanding of the subject, unfortunately I do not, as I have been mining on easy mode with QTminer for months, and now I have to learn to redo everything for new GPU's.
Would anyone be willing to advise me on the best solution for this? Also can anyone point me to a good tutorial for setting up claymore, or genoil or both? Is all this stuff somewhere I am just not seeing?
Or for that matter can we start a thread to get all of this information in one spot? I have read about bios changes and a bunch of other stuff id rather not have to do,,,
Just want to get the damn thing mining as easily as possible on windows,, at this point in time running it on linux seems to require jumping through too many hoops.
I will tip a little BTC to anyone who can write a detailed post complete with a description of the steps needed to mine eth with an rx 480 on windows that an idiot can follow
How to install and set up CLaymore, Genoil? Step by step please. Im tired of looking over 30 posts and articles to finds bits and pieces of information strown all about.
Or it could be that Im just not looking in the right place,, whatever,, please help! Thanks.
