Is there going to be an alternative layout color for the new software forum?
Gray-ish is kinda cool I guess, but not everyone is going to like it.

Maybe the answer is laying hidden somewhere after logging in on the new platform?

The short answer would be not yet.
A theming engine has been implemented a while ago and it will eventually allow users to choose between different themes. Current theme's design is not final as the team is focusing more on functionality rather than looks at this point.
