If he is using a step up converter he is feeding the power supply 220. If its a 5000w converter it should have a voltage regulator to keep everything in line but a multimeter test to verify that isnt a bad idea. Is your home 120v power stable? In my old house when my washing machine kicks into spin cycle it dims lights because of my poor 70 year old wiring.
