With the main client,

with the old 0.7 client i copied only the blk*.dat files
then for restore i simply
created a new .bitcoin dir, i put inside the decompressed blk*.dat files and my wallet.dat
and then i started
bitcoin-qt -rescan

HOW TO DO THIS WITH THE NEW 08. CLIENT?
it seems saving the blk*.dat files is no more enough,
there are some new dir. Help.

Thank you in advance.

I believe the database system has changed.  I just ran 0.8 with the original files in place, and it imported from old to create new in the same directory.

Copy the entire bitcoin data directory except the wallet. You may also have to remove log files in the database directory, they often are associated with the wallet file or are platform-specific.
