Non-US ICO's

Looking for your opinions.  Many of these ICO's are cutting out the US due to our crazy regulations and how aggressive the US government has been.

My question(s)... are you investing in good ICO's anyway even though you're in the US?  Do you think some of these ICO's just say they don't want US citizens to cover themselves?  If I send ETH from MEW how do they know I'm a US citizen?  Do I have to use a VPN to protect myself?
