I installed Litcoin_qt wallet 0.6.3b.

waited for blockchain, has fully sync'd

Next i go to the built in miner (tab at top where it says "Mining")

7 fields and a check box are my options and a start mining button.

fields are:

1 TYPE: Solo Mining
2 Threads: 99
3 Scantime: 4
4 Server: blank
5 Port: blank
6 Username: blank
7 Password: blank
checkbox Debug logging (unchecked)

i click the start mining and i get a message of "[23:30:40] - Solo Mining started"

then nothing else seems to happen?

Is something else suppose to happen and i am missing some settings? or is it actually mining and hasn't solved a block yet so isnt giving me any notifications yet but it is working correctly?

there is no manual or instructions anywhere to be found so if i am missing things please let me know so i am not wasting my time waiting for something that will never happen cause i missed some setup steps.

Yes, something else is supposed to happen, but I am not sure myself ... this is all new to me too, so thanks for posting this question.

I beleive that a lot of those fields are for entering data that goes to a 'mining pool' where you contribute your calculating power to a group that then solves problems ('blocks') and then divvies up the take according to the calculating power that you share.

Maybe someone will take pity on us utter newbs and ick-splain how all this works!

Same boat here, guys. Seems like the Solo Mining doesn't work. I've been mining in pools (notroll and p2pool) and getting results, but I suspect those results are poor (for example, I'm mining on p2pool right now and after 17 hours or so, I only have 23 accepted shares (with 3 rejected).

I suspect one of the issues is that I have no clue what the settings for "Threads" and "Scantime" are supposed to be set to. I have discovered that things run smoother if I uncheck "Debug Logging"... with it checked, a lot more data is displayed and long-term, it seems to lock up the client (trying to display too much data?). As for the settings "Server", "Port", "Username" and "Password", you put in the settings that each individual pool supplies to you... not sure if those are relevant for solo mining.

Of course, one of the other issues I'm having is using an ancient computer (it's a Dell that's about 7 or 8 years old). One of the claims is that Litecoin mining can be done with consumer level gear, so consider me a test case. :-D
