Hi.

not sure if this is the right place for this, but.....

My original account, 'MatTheCat', seems to have been wiped from bitcointalk.org. It also has a (-2) Trustworthy rating, although I have never attempted to trade with anyone on this site.

I am guessing that it was compromised.

thx.

You are currently banned. There is an open scam accusation against you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1622279.0

Edit: Did you try resetting your password using the security question? (If you didn't DON't TRY IT).

Yes. I have since seen the thread.

I guess I should have paid more attention to all those PMs coming into my Email inbox......but I just took them as spam and didn't pay any attention.....got other things to worry about at the moment.....apologies to anyone who has been scammed.

The thing is, we can't prove that you were really hacked. The bitcoin way (signing a message) doea not work when you want to prove you didn't do or don't have access to something. Sad to say, you're in a tough spot.

Why would a Hero Member scam somebody for $17 worth of bitcoin? I've never dealt with MatTheCat but surely nobody would scam for such a pathetic amount?

This suggests to me that he probably has been hacked?

It is hard to say whether he has been hacked. However, we can ask the admins to check the IPs and see if they are different.

If he wants his account back, he will have to sign a message with the following addresses:

coz probably not all users can afford higher amount than .025btc so maybe instead of asking big amount and fail, he chose to (probably) scam small amount and pretend to be hacked.

IIRC, IP evidence isn't offered by administrators since it's unreliable (with all the services offered for VPNs). Has the policy changed?

The admins have offered IP evidence in the form of "yes the IPs are the same" or "no they are different". They don't actually give the IPs. Also, a lot of VPN and Tor IPs are known so they can say whether the IP is likely to be hidden or not.

I suppose so, would be stupid of him if that is the case though. He should have sold his Hero Member account instead which would be worth a lot more.

The IP on my desktop is fixed, and only changes when the router is switched on and off..........if you check it, you will be able to see, that MatDerKater and MatTheCat have signed in from the same IP, which if I am not mistaken, you should be able to track to the same exchange, and most certainly pinpoint to being in the UK.

I would hazard a guess that whoever was signing into MatTheCat as the scams were being perpetuated, was not from the UK, and had very different credentials.

As for signing an address....I don't even know what the fuck that is nor how to do it......oh yeah, and I wouldn't get out of bed for $17, if that is indeed all that was stolen.

That user is surely scammer after I sent my bitcoin to him and I sent him a reply that I still did not receive the $17 payza balance he says

Then after a 4 - 5 hours "his password/email still does not change" I PM him again to what happen in my $17? and I click his trust feedback then I see that his password/email has been changed, so this your plan at first?

That shows there is quite a possibility of the account being not hacked by op could be a scammer. The first thing hacker would do after gaining the account is password change.

Not a good logic. He could have sold his HERO account for much more than this instead of choosing to first scam someone for a smaller amount than inform that it is hacked.

Nobody here is able to definitely say you were or were not hacked. Fact is, scams were pulled on your account, so unless you are willing to compensate the losses you shouldn't get it back. You already admitted that you ignored unexpected btctalk private message emails which would have helped to stop it. It's always convenient when the account owners don't log in for the short period of time the scam took place.
