Have anyone ever ran the bitcoin client (full node) on an encrypted drive? If so, how is the overall performance? I am considering using LUKS but do not know how the performance would be or if the drive would be a bottleneck and if it will be I probably might have to either just not encrypt the drive or use another drive thats not encrypted for the blockchain. Any opinion or advice will be appreciated.

I'm running a full node using LUKS for whole-disk encryption. It doesn't affect disk performance in any way (unless you're using a CPU from the '90s or something).

Just want to make sure Smiley my cpu is an i7 4790k so I believe I be fine. I just wanted to make sure it wouldnt be a bottleneck that would affect the performance of the disk or overall performance.

the only times id imagine youd notice a small hit is during sync processes (already disk intensive without encryption) i use some truecrypt containers which slow the read write speed right down and i still font notice much difference during normal use

I don't even think you should see a difference with that CPU. I've ran Bitcoin Core with VeraCrypt with a 4770k and didn't really notice anything.
