Fresh ubuntu 16.10 install.
added the repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
bitcoind can install
bitcoin-qt cannot install due to "uninstallable" libprotobuf9v5

Any solutions ?

This is a known issue. See https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/9003

You can use the binaries from bitcoin.org instead of the PPA.

simple Installing Bitcoin Core on Ubuntu:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bitcoin-qt
if error : try apt-get install -f and re install bitcoin-qt
