What are the best advices to cope with the edge of the fog of war?

You know, when you reach the edge of the known. What are the best advises in such a situation? I am so used to fast actions that I am quite novice in this area.

Intuitively I would recommend:

Check on the vitals, hydra, food, well being.
Exercise patience with total vigilance.
And wait...

or look at what the naturals do...



I think it's pretty compatible with what I wrote earlier.  



to 70 years of accumulated individual experiences... wow. And when you think about it as a collective... ohoho.
