Hi guys,
I have two noob questions here:

What is the process/procedure I need to follow to:

1) Sign an address - to prove that I am the owner?
2) Add a message to a transaction when I sent BTC?
I have sent donations to Hal and I wanted to add a thank you note but I haven't done it before.

Thanks Smiley

EDIT: Also, once I do sign an address how can one verify that?

In the BitcoinQT client/wallet under the file menu, there is the "sign message" option... which generates a cryptographic hash to confirm the text and that it was authored by owner of given address.

The message on a transaction part is not overtly supported in that client, but can be done with the blockchain online wallet.

So I can put anything in the "sign message" field?

And how does one confirm that it is my message?

There's the verify message option underneath sign message in the file menu, and to verify you'd paste in the original text taking care not to grab any extra spaces either side, and the hash and it will verify the message as genuine for the address that generated it.

edit: yes you can put anything in the message field... but I'm not entirely sure if characters that need an extended character set will be supported.
