Hours before instawallet went down due to the hack, I sent all of my coins (under 10) to another exchange. I triple-checked the bitcoin address I was sending it to. The strange thing is that the transaction never showed up on block chain (not on either of the sending bitcoin address nor the receiving bitcoin address). I never received my money either at the address I sent it to. All I saw was that the money was gone from my account. If I file a claim, will I be able to get my money back because there wasn't any record of a transaction from my instawallet btc address?

You can't ask for a refund because the Bitcoin protocol doesn't allow it. You can however look in the block chain (https://blockchain.info/) to know what happened to your coins.

An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

Yes but there is not any transaction on the network. It's like I sent the coins and they just disappeared from my wallet without any transaction taking place on the network.

Give us what you have.  What was the address you sent them to.  Do you know the address you sent them from?

If not can you find the addresses and transactions from when you funded your account at instawallet?  Might help.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

Here is the sending address: 1DNK7VuZurYuYNkzYF2LoYhAUMgQ3TDoNJ. All of my coins (I think around 7). Here is the receiving address: 1EKJAqC7L2twQbQpQPX2SCBNegJacrJg5B. Sent bitcoins around 5 am EDT on the 31st or 1st of April but no transaction ever appeared on the network. My coins were gone though. All took place a couple hours before instawallet shut down.

It just doesn't make sense that no transaction appeared on the network. Unreported coins?

So were the coins sent or not? I'm confused by the red and greed arrows because I have coins for other addresses that also contain these arrows.

No coins we're sent from that address after may 21st. Feel for you, should have used the blockchain.info wallet...
Cheers

Yeah, I definitely learned to use a better wallet. I am currently using the two-way authentication system on blockchain but am thinking of just getting an offline wallet. Here is what I think happened: 1. I sent the bitcoins to an address I triplechecked. 2. Instawallet either stopped outgoing transactions or the transaction was just made invalid in order to figure out what exactly was going on with everyone's coins (coins need to be confirmed by blockchain to move from wallet to wallet). 3. Site was shortly shut down after. 4. Because a transaction was never made nor confirmed by the blockchain, the funds were returned to the wallet much later (after site was shut down). I think the coins are safe. I'll definitely try to file a claim.
