New to the whole bitcoin universe. Kind of. Had heard about it about 4 years back when someone had offered me some bitcoins for some work I did for him.
Got introduced back yesterday when one of my colleague was discussing it at lunch. Looking at its value now, regret not taking that offer then.  Cry
Back then had read that it was a online currency for the dark web or something. But looking at this forum post size itself looks like a whole big universe which exists that not many know of.
Well, I decided to take the plunge for the  technology and something to keep me occupied (who am i kidding... the lure of money too after seeing its price  Wink Grin ).
I'm usually good at learning new stuff quickly. This is a great forum for a newbie like me... already love some of the topics. Please don't mind if I ask some silly questions or ask for tips from the experienced in the group.
Glad to be here and hope that it will be fruitful journey.

That being said, would love any quick suggestions on topics (apart from the most obvious ones) that I should check that would be good read to fully understand bits about coins.

Unfortunately most people judge this technology on the nonsense that are spread in the mainstream media. They forget that the media is based on sensationalism and only using the Dark web will attract attention to their site or sell some extra newspapers.

Mobile phones are also used by criminals every day, but it is not plastered in the media. Let's forget about them and concentrate on the many good things that are done with this technology. "Internet of Money" as it is called.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you will also help us to break the misconceptions and the misinformation that are being spread in the media. Just tell them the other side of the story, because they seldom get exposed to that, because it is not news worthy enough to be published. ^hmmmmm^

Welcome Deathwish, as well as learning the basics as soon as you started purchasing/earning Bitcoins make sure you put every security measure in place to protect it that is available. There is some different security measures that FAIT and it's good to understand them ASAP.

First and foremost make sure that you do your own research on coins that you choose to invest in. Some things to consider:

What is the coin's use and roadmap?
Does the coin have intrinsic value?
Who are the developers behind the coin?
Does it have a thriving community?
What is the history of the coin and the track record of those behind it?
What are the economics of the coin that will drive adoption?
What differentiates this coin from others?

Use forums, slack channels, and chats to discover new coins
Read white papers, independent research reports, and use your own metrics to determine what to invest in

DON'T invest in a coin just because it's popular and people are talking about it.

Make sure you do your due diligence and manage your bankroll

There's a lot to the crypto game but the factors above are a good place to start.

Good luck

When I was invited to know bitcoin, I ignored it.
But with the current bitcoin, and the very new pantastic price regrets the importance of knowing bitcoin.
My brother understands about bitcoin, and I see the money he gets from work in bitcoin is huge

regret always happens

As many suggested, please do some reading in general about blockchain technology and understand different variations based on the base algorithm driving blockchains for specific coins.

Keep an eye on Bitcoin (obvious), Ethereum, and Litecoin. These are three main coins in the market. People may argue that Monero, ZCash, and Dash too are and they are right too.

Most important advise is to only invest so much you are willing to loose. The technology is still relatively new (5 to 8 years is nothing) compared to other main stream stuff.

Good luck with your crypto journey!

I've started looking into the tech behind it... At this moment, I don't have the confidence with mining or the equipment for it... Although I will keep that open for the near future...
Thanks for your offer of helping with this. Appreciate it.

Hi all. I am new to the crypto currency world as well. There is an overwhelming amount of information and just a small glacé can make a person nervous about the kind of sophistication that these things have. Growing up with the current media you never realise how cool all this stuf is and how imaginative and creative people are!!! I look forward to learn more and may be one day be decent enough to share my knowledge to others just like all you guys are helping out each other

I think you need to carefully examine not 1-2 coins, but 20 pieces, only then you can trade, you will understand the value of each coin lost and received. And of course you need a strategy, your personal tactics. Information is very much, and people are even those peppers)).
