I personally sold some of my BTC on rumors about LTC on Gox. Some for $100 and some for $133, when the price was still rising.
Imagine if several big investors found out about LTC, they could cashout to USD as well.

Don't give LTC so much importance.
Litecoin can fall down bitcoin just like a fly an elephant.
