Hi,

Bitcoin is a non government and non corporate controlled currency wich allows free trade without state monopolized money, or money wich is controlled by Banks. So it offers freedom and more security than other currency systems.

But there are some other decentralized projects on the way wich could change the world, one example is Yacy. A fully decentralised searchengine wich is owned by nobody.
Today we see that big corporations like Google dont respect our privacy, and state laws force search engines like Google to censor away millions of links (As example for copyright reasons, or to prevent other informations from being found).

Yacy is a fully functional searchengine, it runs on PCs and Servers around the world using a sort of P2P Network, all data is split in chunks and distributed to all participating computers.
The Yacy Network has no central point of controll, so yacy is resistant against any censorship. The sourcecode is opensource, so anyone can use it for everything. It offers an integrated webserver, so you can run your very own searchengine just for yourself, or for the general Public (It also may be possible to earn some money by including ads).

I think we should not accept that the way we search and find informations is controlled by central monopolies and the state, its time to build up something wich is not controlled by anybody, wich is free and makes censorship impossible. At this moment the Yacy network consists of only around 100 active peers, the network is very small. But the search results and speed are quite impressive, its reaction time is nearly as fast as Google. The Problem at the moment is that there are not enough participants to offer a full search index of all places in the Internet, so the number of search results is to small. But YOU! can change this by downloading yacy, installing it to your PC and providing some space and Bandwith to the project to get the Index growing. Im sure, 1 million homeusers and a few professionals with their roots can build up an global scale searchengine wich can compete with Google on the free market while protecting our freedom of information against thoose who try to censor them.

Installation and usage of this software is very easy, more informations at:

http://yacy.net

Its up to you to be one of this pioneers who will change the world forever ! Spread the word, and participate !

(Sry for my bad english, im still learning)

Diaspora is something I've been hoping can change things for quite a while now, but it's moving along fairly slowly. It's a decentralized social network (anyone can set up a pod for others to use.) that if sorted out enough, could really take off. It's currently needing some work done to get it sorted out, but hopefully that'll be done over time. Site is here : https://joindiaspora.com/

More info on it here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaspora_%28social_network%29

Ah, and yeah, for many here this pod might be of interest : https://www.cryptospora.net/

edit : Will make sure to look at Yacy too, thanks for sharing!
