I am using RPCMiner and DiabloMiner on a iMac. I am just trying to get the set up running, I have servers at work I can use for more power, just want to run a test first, get a feel for how it works.

Are you using stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 as the pool URL in your mining software?  And can you access mining.bitcoin.cz from a web browser?

I was about to say the same thing.

I'm currently on stratum3.bitcoin.cz:3333 with no problem.

I use cgminer with this standard url "http://api.bitcoin.cz:8332" and it works fine. Please try this maybe?

Okay so using this I have got RPC Miner working fine, I think, it just keeps updating with how many khash/s I'm getting. However the DiabloMiner is now giving the error

"Cannot connect to api.bitcoin.cz Bitcoin returned unparsable JSON"

I am also getting this on myaccount:

Some your workers are using deprecated 'Getwork' protocol. Please update your software to the latest version with native support of modern 'Stratum' protocol. The pool fee for workers using deprecated Getwork protocol is 10%. Please move workers to Stratum to reduce their fees back to 2%.
With update you'll also get:

fee only 2%
lower 'stale ratio', which means more accepted shares
fees collected by the pool from network transactions
Following bitcoin miners have native Stratum support:
GUI miner (20121118 and newer) for OpenCL cards (ATI)
cgminer (2.8.x and newer)
poclbm (20120920 and newer)
bfgminer
If you still want to use another miner without built-in Stratum support (e.g. GUI miner for nVidia cards), please install Stratum proxy. This message disappear automatically once you update your miners and pool starts new round.

How do I update? Sorry for being such a noob.

Thanks.

Fixed that issue: now I'm getting

No one should be using api.bitcoin.cz:8332 anymore as it uses the outdated "getwork" protocol.  Most miners already support the newer "stratum" protocol automatically, but you need to change the pool settings in your miner.  You should use the same username and password, but the pool URL is now stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333.

If you stay with api.bitcoin.cz, you are being charged a 10% fee.  Stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 only has a 2% fee.  This is meant to encourage people to use the newer, faster protocol.

It should be as easy as changing the pool settings in your miner.  It depends on your miner program, but you just need to change api.bitcoin.cz:8332 to stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333.  If you have to, delete the pool and re-add the new one.

I'm not sure about that OpenCL error you're having though.  Maybe make sure your drivers are up to date?  Since you're on an iMac, run Software Update (under the Apple menu) and see if you can upgrade to the latest version of Mac OS X.  Alternatively, try a different miner maybe and see if you have the same errors.

Thanks for your help, do you have any suggestions on good miners to use?

I have tried updating to the stratum protocol, however it just keeps giving more errors, where as I am getting some successes with the api.

My favourite for a Mac is cgminer.  I've written an Mac-specific installation guide for it here, and there's a few links to other active Mac-friendly projects (of which there aren't too many) in that same post.

What version of Mac OS X are you on?  I think DiabloMiner and RPCMiner for mac are a bit old, you'll probably have much better luck with a different (newer) miner.  Maybe try out cgminer and let us know how it goes!  Feel free to PM me if you need help.

It works great, I'm running it right now on my 2011 MacBook Pro at 72 Mhash/s Smiley

That blog I linked should be able to step you through installing it, I updated it just today.  It involves some work in Terminal, but it's not too bad.  I believe the current miners you're using do not support the stratum protocol, and probably even an older OpenCL implementation, which is why you're seeing all those errors.  Make sure you're on the latest version of Mac OS X and give cgminer or bfgminer a try.

Just like to update you, I have fixed the issue. I skipped your step of "If it returns some warnings, read the text and do what it says to fix it." - only have myself to blame. For anyone reading this in the future, if it prompts you to delete the files use the command rm –Rf to delete unneeded files (worked for me.)

Hehe, that's great!  So do you have cgminer working now?  And did you get the pool setup and mining again for you?
