What to trust?

Hi,
I'm interested in Bitcoin for political reasons. The way it could change our currency.
What do you think about that?
Are some of you there because they trust more the owners of the computational power than state authorities?

I too am interested in how Bitcoins or other similar units could change currency as a whole.  I don't think it is mainstream enough to see effects yet.  Most of my friends have never even heard of Bitcoins, but at least there are more media stories now.  Side note, the Libertarian party now accepts bitcoin donations, so the visibility of Bitcoins is rising.
