My cold wallet

Both these are pics of my offline cold wallet setup , the first pic is the QR screen, this is how I add funds to it and take funds off of it using my cell phone. The second pic is the paper wallet offline generator, which can then be copied to sd card and printed.

I am somewhat opposed to cell phones. They are made for spying onto you, so not a trustworthy platform. According to the Vault 7 revelations anything "smart" is not trustworthy.

root is an amazing thing, and the hardware can be data neutered, and actually its not a smart device in any sense, unless a calculator is a smart device

That's quite a cool setup, you may want to check out Bither's cold storage app, it's the same sort of setup as yours but it's really easy to use and install. Make sure you completely wiped the phone and don't let it touch any wifi/mobile network!

Noooo not with a cellphone! I'd really stay away from your regular smartphones, if you really want to couple it to a mobile device get an encrypted phone, but for that price you can get like 10 trezors...

 no usually there is nothing on the device, its on a couple of sd cards if one sd card goes down i still have the other, (I never leave the sd in it, and delete the info off the device once backup are made). and what if you drop a paer wallet or a trezor in a lake, . Noooo not with a cellphone! I'd really stay away from your regular smartphones, if you really want to couple it to a mobile device get an encrypted phone, but for that price you can get like 10 trezors...

I paid $11 apiece for two of these, so i could get like 5 of these for the price of a trezor, I have also disabled all data capabilities including gps, you can even disable the eternal hardware, (cut the internal antenna's etc). This is no longer a phone. its a cold offline device

Because its portable. no funded BTC cold storage is on it, thats on an external sd card, (easy to stash away), this is only a portable qr address; reader, generator, and transfer system. I have used linux usb and i always had to find a computer to generate addresses. This lets me do it whenever, wherever, and securely on the fly. A linux usb and trezor didn't offer me that. I often sit on a bench in a park or in my car at lunch and generate addresses offline in minutes. I always have it on me as I carry it around with me it always has only one BTC address and keys with around $20 on it (for a beer or quick trade). And other than that all it has is a few blank generated public qr addresses waiting for putting funds onto it, As I have the blank copies at home as well with the private key in cold storage this is no problem, It is more portable than my linux usb, and as a bonus, this totally offline device has a screen for displaying QR and a camera to take a pic of another QR and save it to file.

there is one thing wrong with your thoughts in my honest opinion.
a cold storage is something that you "put away" or in other words you don't plan on accessing the funds in it every day or even every week or in case of long term hodlers even for years.
and for that you don't need or i better say you shouldn't carry it around.

if you want to receive funds in that cold storage, the only thing you need is one address, its public key or since you like it so much its QR code.

if you want pocket money bitcoin then use a hot (mobile) wallet with small amounts that you want to spend.

in short other words. cold storage is the dollar bills you hide in your mattress and hot wallet (portable on your cell phone) is the dollar bills you put in your back pocket. since you don't carry your mattress around with you, around your neck, there is not reason why you should carry your cold storage with you either.

I think a cellphone is good for smaller transactions because of the ease of use. I wouldn't trust my life savings in it though. The best thing to do is to use a full qt wallet. You dont want to trust your wallet to another third party of you can help it. For business deals and stuff you should always have full control.

I started with linux usb. It always tied me to a laptop, I was sitting there staring at the usb and the laptop screen trying to put them onto a single device when it hit me. I wanted the computer and screen on a portable memory computational device. So I dug for an old phone. I am just as paranoid (or more so) as the next guy.  I created my setup from the ground up so I know what it can and cant broadcast. And it cant broadcast anything. Since I built it. I know waht it is.  I bricked it into a hand held QR generator. It does what I want and I am no longer tied to a laptop.

there is one thing wrong with your thoughts in my honest opinion.

My SD card and printed paper wallets are my cold storage, Once I save my generated info into addresses keys I put them on an sd card and erase the generated address contents on the device. I do however Keep a few addresses on it with about $50 so i can use those funds on the fly.

Yeah I don’t like my phones being smarter than I’m it is better to run a desktop wallet than something in a phone and if you can runt on Linux and avoid windows like plague, especially windows 10.
