Why are there so many alt coins that use scrypt (the spawns of Litecoin), and not so many alt coins that use sha256 (the spawns of Bitcoin)

And few alt coins that use anything else?   (Primecoin primes, like that)

Because of ASIC most of the SHA coins have been 51% to death. TRC suffered really badly for a while. SunnyKing did something to PPC apart from POS to make it more resilient.
