I have a older core quad I decided to put guiminer to pick up a few fractions of a bitcoin here and there. Is it doing ok?

It seems slow...

and the client uses all if the last processor...

It's probably cause it's old, but I want to be sure.

You are minig on your GPU only. Start a tab for each additional cpu in GUIminer. But yeah, you wont make a lot.

yes you mining on just the GPU and core number 3 (the one with the tick)

to get the max out of you computer
set up 2 tabs the one youve got now as tab 1 and unselect core 3
and set up a 2nd tab for the CPU and select device as CPU and select all 4 of the cpu affinity boxes

i loled when i saw the GPU my CPU puts out that per core and its and AMD Phenom II 970

Best expected CPU speeds I have seen is about 2.8MH/s... My OLD GPU GTX9800 does 23.4MH/s alone... and won't kill my CPU in the process. I don't care if my GPU dies, I have three others to replace it!

(@ $125USD per BTC)
2.8MH/s = about $0.017 a day
23.4MH/s = about $0.16 a day
230MH/s = $1.64 a day
2300MH/s or 2.3GH/s = $16.45 a day
25GH/s = $168.75 a day
250GH/s = $1,687.55 a day

Until the next difficulty level, then divide that result by 8...
Then the next difficulty... Divide that by 16...
Then the next difficulty... Divide that by 32...

EG...
25MH/s = $0.17 a day = $0.005 a day, after the difficulty has increased 3x
250MH/s = $1.68 a day = $0.05 a day, after the difficulty has increased 3x
2.5GH/s = $16.87 a day = $0.53 a day, after the difficulty has increased 3x
25GH/s = $168.75 a day = $5.27 a day, after the difficulty has increased 3x
250GH/s = $1,687.55 a day = $52.73 a day, after the difficulty has increased 3x

What would you recommend as the best option for someone to casually mine some Bitcoins? Buy a few AMD 7950? or something else?

You should mine LiteCoins since they are more profitable and you can also mine with your CPU too...
