Is Ethernum a threat to Bitcoin?

-Ethernum is faster than bitcoin
-has been gaining popularity
-its good for smart contracts.

Is Ethernum going to replace bitcoin, die out as a fad or coincide with bitcoin? Are we likely to see any altcoin possibly kill bitcoins or will bitcoin simply incorporate any improvements from altcoins, taking away all advantages.
I don't think Ethernum will become more popular than BTC. It costs a lot less

I dont think Bitcoin would ever be replaced, if another crypto-currency where to rise it would be immediately rejected by larger firms unless it has more better fisiblity and security that bitcoin. Bitcoin already had a tough time to be accepted as payment in companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Steam; if it were to fail, then these companies wouldnt accept another cryptocurrency

For now I can say Ethernum is coin next to bitcoin however it can't defeat bitcoin when it comes to currency and popularity. In case that some merchants acknowledge bitcoin but not Ethernum, still , when it comes to other cryptocurrency, Ethernum is the best.

It can be a good replace for bitcoin, it can be used too the way bitcoin can,but not theses soon. Bitcoin gains more popularity and makes more features and development at this time that are being acquired by many users. Having Ethernum as an option is fine, but using it as a main cryptocurrency ,I doubt if many users will adopt it.

If Bitcoin can overcome its transitional phase now, without dividing itself into two different coins, then it is unlikely that it will be replaced. However, there are other coins growing very fast in adoption such as Dash and Ether.

Moreover, new comers such as Pivx and Waves might pose a threat if they gain mass adoption, with their proper inner governance structure. Only time will tell, but it might be the case that Bitcoin will coexist with many digital currencies, at the same time without being replaced at all.

you are asking two different question:
the probability of bitcoin being replaces in the future is high.
BUT
the probability of bitcoin being replaces by ethereum in the future is zero.

ethereum is just another one of those pump and dump altcoins with a lot of hot air a lot of shills to advertise for it. but over time it is going to die off and disappear just like others before it.

Well, don't underestimate the success of scammy systems.  Look at the three highest alt coins: ETH and DASH, both heavily centralized, both having serious historical problems (one has lost its immutability and permissionlessness, the other one a huge instamine).  The third one a banking coin with full premine.

The two more "honest" coins are Monero and Litecoin at the top of the palmares, with much smaller market caps.

There's no guarantee that crypto markets value decentralisation or permissionlessness.  It seems rather the opposite. They may just as well prefer scammy games. Bitcoin being centralized by miners, ETH being a totally centralized coin having already shown what that means, DASH being an instamine centralized coin, and ripple being a bankers coin, take up 95% of the crypto "investment".

In a way, this is not surprising: centralized systems can manipulate much more, and market much more, than decentralized systems which are no game.

For short/medium term the chances are zero, nil, nada. In the long run BTC will be most likely replaced by something but probably not by ETH.

it looks like there will be no substitute for bitcoin until whenever, because bitcoin was first created in cryptocurrency and there is nothing better than Bitcoin because Bitcoin is already visible in the future.
