I thought 1 sbd can be transferred to 1 steem coin? How can they have two different values?

I think the design is flawed, what gives Steem Dollar it value, it is suppose to be $1 but that is not so. I like the idea of steemit but the design in general was flawes and is telling now on the project. The price was $3 last year and now tending towards Zero. A new platform will come up and solve this flaw in Steem and we will have a true discentralised platform

It was pumped up to $7 usd march 27 than back down to normal. That could be an indication of more action coming.
