Extremely high Stales using Stratum

Hey, I am new to BitCoin and Crypto Currencies.  I signed up for Slush's pool and started mining about 2 weekends ago.  I have a real slow miner (GTX 460) so I only get about 70 Mhash's.  But Originally I was doing just normal GUIMiner without Stratum and was getting maybe 1 Stale a day.  But then as I got more into mining I found out about Stratum and decided to run that.

But since I started using Stratum on Sat, I have had 199 Stales.  Some of this is because I turned off the miner to watch some tv and use my pc but even when I let it run uninterrupted I am getting quite a few more stales than I did the normal way.

Everything I read said Stratum was supposed to lower the number of stales.  Is this just because I have such a slow machine?
