Observers pointed to the large-scale fraud in the referendum in Turkey

About 2.5 million votes in the referendum in Turkey could be rigged in favor of increasing presidential powers.
This was stated by the Austrian member of the observation mission of the Council of Europe ALEV Korun. She explained that the law allowed voting only by official ballot, however, the highest electoral authority was also allowed to count the ballots without the official stamp. The mission of observers of the 47 members of the Council of Europe also noted that the referendum was covered in the media largely in favor of strengthening the powers of the President, however, arrests of journalists and the closure of some of the media "helped" to ignore other points of view.
Korun also noted that the police were unacceptable to the members of the monitoring mission at the polls. In addition, social networks have a lot of evidence that people could vote several times. Why do we need this referendum? Erdogan has shown that he is a dictator. I think that now Turkey will never be part of Europe.

Now this is just troubling. I've seen the news that they cracked down on anti-Erdogan protest even before the polls ended. It seems that even without rigging it was a close match between Yes and No. Why does it seem that since 2016 we are seeing more and more leaders with authoritarian leanings?

They probably already realized that. After this event it's becoming increasingly more unlikely they'll be allowed into the EU - which is itself at risk of being disbanded.

Seems that in recent years Turkey has started to instead focus on becoming the head of the Turkic-speaking world. I suppose they would fit that role better than to be the odd one in EU. That could also give them more influence on the world stage.

Turkey has been a NATO member for the past many decades, and their application for the European Union membership has been under consideration for quite a long time. You can't compare Turkey with Ukraine. The latter only recently applied for the EU integration, and they have quite a long way to go before getting admitted as an EU member nation.

I don't think this is something that could've went through with out large scale fraud based on the simple fact that they're giving their president the power to turn into a dictator and they're doing it while knowing the horrible things that dictators have done in the past.

Unless the electorate is insanely dumb, then I don't know how some people can come to the conclusion that Erogaden didn't just have the ballots stuffed or however they handled it in Turkey.

Plus, they're not going to get EU membership like this so they can kiss the chance of that happening goodbye.

Erdogan enjoys a lot of support in Turkey. Apart from the far-western coast, Istanbul, and the Kurdistan it is all hardcore Erdogan country. That is why I don't think that he needs to do ballot stuffing in order to win this referendum.
