There are a few chipsets which are renowned for supporting 7 or more cards.
Z270 and Z97 are two which come to mind and have been publicly documented by a wide number of miners.
Thing is, most of these known rigs run with AMD 4XX cards and I have yet to come across a setup running just NVIDIA 10XX.
TeamGreen mentioned (
https://forum.z.cash/t/ewbfs-nvidia-cuda-zcash-miner-1060-170-h-s-gtx-1070-250-h-s/12523?page=12) that due to the high amount of mem these cards require, only 6 are viable on 1 mobo, but in all seriousness this makes no sense when you consider there are rigs out there running 8GB 4XX cards on 8-16GB DDR4 with no issues, unless they are also limiting the mem of each card @ 44% as well.
If someone can prove the above, I'll reconsider and go with the 1060 6GB minis as maxing out RAM for 550 bucks isn't worth the cost, but I'd imagine even then there may be a slight chance I may have to limit them also, so really I may as well just go with a 6 slot supported mobo and be done with it if that's the case.
