Hi all,
I'm 3months old in crypto.  I have an account at Coinbase for long term holding.  I want to open a daytrading account with Bittrex.  They allow accounts from NY state and offer lots of alt coins.  I wrote an email to them on Mom's day, a Sunday at Noon EST.  I got a legit response in 7 minutes.  So now I need some help doing this right.

Bittrex doesn't take USD$.  Not far from me there is a bitcoin ATM.  I don't want an internet wallet, I want a hardware wallet.  Can I buy a wallet at Best Buy, go to ATM, buy bitcoin, put it in the wallet, log on to Bittrex, deposit btc and then... not sure, lol.  Do I turn btc into the coin I want to trade before initiating a buy order?

Any help very welcome!

Edit: I know could buy btc at coinbase.  I want to try that ATM, see how it works.

hey hotdog. a lot of questions in here I can help with some....

1st. just sign up for bittrex. buy some btc on coinbase and send it to your BTC wallet on bittrex. You get a free wallet for every single coin on the site when you sign up. just click on wallets at the top and then click the + button next to BTC. Send the BTC from coinbase to that address. In a few minutes you'll have BTC confirming on bittrex.

2nd. A hardware wallet is a worthwhile investment. I have a ledger nano s and a trezor. But to be honest I don't use it that often. Especially if you're going to daytrade, I'd suggest just utilizing the various wallets you encounter on different exchanges. You could also get "internet" wallet for your mobile like breadwallet or whatever.

3rd. When on Bittrex pick the coin you want to buy. You will see an option for "price" click on that. You can cycle between "bid" and "ask". Bid is what people are willing to pay. Ask is a 'market buy' which buys at the 'best' price at that moment. You can also write in your own amount if you have a specified target and it will create a reserved order for you that will complete if it drops to that level.

hope it helps

@Sentinal: Yes that does help, thank you!  I still want to learn how to use that ATM with a hardware device though.  Do you know is it possible or net wallet only?

@btcdevil: Yes I'm aware btc is a coin.  I want to learn first hand the myriad ways of funding and withdrawing.  I still have a hard time wrapping my head around all this.  Please forgive Smiley

Why don't you buy BTC directly from a person and have him send it to your Bittrex address?

@kazkar: 1st gen fo' sho'...10th gen maybe not.  I giggle when pundits mock automation as, "better jobs, someone has to build and repair, we seen this before!"  Wrong.  You never seen this before.  Who will build and repair the robots?  Robots.

Buy BTC on coinbase and  send it to Bittrex.  Fees are way higher on ATMs then on an exchanges, from obvious reasons.  Yes you can go and buy BTC on ATM put it in any wallet and send to Bittrex.

In simple terms, no wallet actually contains/stores BTC. It "resides" in the "blockchain". Wallets just contain the "keys" to be able to access the bitcoins. You could use a software wallet, dump the keys to a text file, copy them to a piece of paper (or put the text file on a USB card) and then lock them in s safe if you wanted instead of buying some hardware device. Or you could create a cold storage paper "wallet" and put that in a safe. The "coins" are still on the block chain, all you have is the keys to them.

I don't know if this is accurate but it seems to indicate you can't directly get the ATM BTC into a hardware wallet.

https://coinatmradar.com/blog/how-to-buy-bitcoins-at-atm-directly-to-hardware-wallet/

Bottom line, you're creating a bunch of extra work for yourself using an ATM and hardware wallet for coins you're just going to put on the exchange anyway lol.

You can access Bittrex, Poloniex, and all that in NY but you can not actually trade. You will need to go to another state. Thank Ben Lawsky for his BitLicense bill which pushes the exchanges away from NY state. You can only buy through Coinbase, Gemeni, and others but can not actually trade.

@viper: good stuff, thank you.

@povertybyte:  You sure?  That is the exact question I asked this past Sunday and was told I can trade with them.  I will confirm tomorrow.  I hope you are wrong.

thaks for you advice but  i am using polonex for long long time and i also never found anything wrong there, but now some people are claiming that polonix is scam so i am confuse that what should i do as there still no valid proof present against them and they are also not giving any statement about this so as to clarify the position.
