When I go to boot from the USB, it just hangs at black screen

 I'm using an older 16gb sandisk cruzer

Try setting the USB ports to compatibility mode in the bios.

Instal https://www.microsoft.com/pl-pl/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool and create boot pendrive.When comp start choose usb.In Linux i am minus.
