I have been big on the Casascius market, but am interested in diversifying into Kialara bars.

Do the bars have more intrinsic collectible value if they are funded vs unfunded?

I think every bar I've seen go up for sale or auction on here has been unfunded which leads me to believe they are worth more unfunded.

If that assumption is true, seems to me that they are more a work of art rather than a capsule to store BTC.

Yes, that is correct from what I have learned, unfunded is best..... ☺

Indeed. They are regarded more as art pieces than physical storage. The only way of redeeming the bars would be to destroy them due to various security implementations that Kialara has used.
If you do load your Kialaras, when you resell them you could always ask for the amount loaded on top of the total asking price but it won't attract a higher premium. If anything it would lower the pool of potential buyers as they'd have to pay more for something which has the BTC locked away.

The Signature Series seems interesting because it can serve as a cold storage device and still have resale value because it uses a T5 torx screwdriver.

Collectors have not shown as much interest in the non-denominated Signature Series. It seems that Kialaras that are denominated are more desired; the new Silver Series 'To the Moon' pieces went back to being denominated in bitcoin and sold out in two days.

On the kialara.com it shows that each Signature Series piece is 1/500.

Non-denominated in that each Signature Series piece does not have an engraved bitcoin value like the originals and Silver Series. I like the Signature Series myself.

Ahh! I see what you mean!
I thought you meant they weren't limited denomination.

Not all signature series are 500 units, such as the below:

250 units: http://kialara.com/product/signature-series-ricky-allman-excavatorelevator-2/

100 units: http://kialara.com/product/signature-series-ricky-allman-excavatorelevator-3/

Smart move to get in to the Kialara's as IMO (& no offense to many other cold-storage/collectibles that I also own) I think it's hard to argue that alongside Mike's Casascius coins/bars, Kialara's are the "top-dog" when it comes to these pieces.    I loaded one Kialara Labyrinth due to it only having an implied storage of .1BTC and I just like the idea of it being loaded and as an art piece.  I wouldn't load any of the other pieces that you have to break to get in to.  Can't wait for the To The Moon's to arrive but happy to wait because Max their creator is a true artist and perfectionist (as many of us here know).

I'd say you have put the words real nicely
Though i wouldn't even load a lab or any other kialara product...

loading means , redeeming someTIME maybe which would mean destroying the piece.
not really comforting Smiley

I personally wouldnt load them.  There are other coins you can load that would be as pricey if needed to redeem at some point.  Also it will limit your selling audience in the future as most people would want to buy these unloaded.

I'm with you man! Loaded and never sell! Granted I only have 1 and soon to be 2, it would be another story if I had Fort Kialara, but as you said the idea of it being loaded art and virtually inaccessible is what appeals to me.
