So I have just been scammed, and not by a trivial amount either. This site, which has been operating for at least a month. Its obvious with hindsight that I could easily have protected myself if I had done the most trivial amount of due dillegence, but I sent 100 ETH to this it in a single transaction, and now I pretty much regard it as lost.

Please do not tell me how stupid I have been, I am aware of that! Of course I should have known better, but a moment of stupidity is all it takes. I am gutted, of course.

If you have any idea how I might recover something, anything, I will give you 25% of whatever is recovered. Let me know, give me an insight by PM of what you think should be done. If I agree, I will give you further information and ask you to proceed. There are a few emails. I have remained polite. I have also filed a police report but thats pretty hopeless I dont expect anything from that. I am thinking along the lines of scamming the scammer but really I dont have the litrary skills to do that. Perhaps you do.

The website lists a postal address which it turns out is rented office PO boxes. Their PA refuses to say if they know of bitcoinat. There is no such registered company in the Uk.  The email headers imply a los angeles address and I have also been told there may be a Austria connection (Virwox).

Really this is aweful and very very hard to accept, extremely depressing.

On a more posative note, whats the best way to take the site down to prevent others falling for it ?

The best way is to warn us here on bitcoin talk, ask also for the website to be added here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1326821.0

I am afraid that you lost your coins specailly if they are comfirmed (which they probabbly are till this point), there are no chargebacks with cryptocurrency, once its send its over. Every time check for reviews of the website and with that high amount well only chose reputable exchanges like coinbase (they are still not the best one, but trade in portions....)

I am sorry and feel sad when I hear about these cases Sad won't tell you what you should have done and give you pointers as you have already understood sadly what you have done.

People like this are the ones that will continue to soil the name of people in the crypto-world. Its unfortunate you had to go through what I imagine you are going through now because that amount irrespective of the amount is your hard earned money and also what happened to you can happen to anybody, I know because it has happened to me before and no matter how you blame yourself, it won't come back.

Dear mintymark,

Can you do more than listing it on your website. Op is more interested in getting back is money.

seems.all.companies.registered outside usa will be scam ..

wow some unexpected generalisation here  Shocked
don't you think it is a little bit too much to make a statement like that
there are plenty of scammers in the US and there are many legit businesses and companies elsewhere in the world
as for the OP,I don't think you can return your money, that is some heavy loss, man, sorry
the best way to fight scammers is exposure:open scam accusation here at bitcointalk and add them to badbitcoin.org site
at least you can save others from losing money

Yeah, your money is gone forever friend. Sorry to hear about this.

But yes, report it with the relevant people. The only way to stop the websites that do this from doing it, is not not go on them. Stay with a trusted source and do not try new start-ups.
