Alright!

By now if you really big into bitcoin and cryptocurrency you've heard about the scaling debate. Tell me what you hope happens before August 1 and why?

as somebody who is not a programmer I think it sounds to me like SegWit is the better and more likely option, but I want to know what the community has to say!

For other non-programmers out there who don't know what I'm talking about, read this article: https://coinjournal.net/bitcoin-now-likely-get-segwit-august-1st-avoid-chain-split/

Honestly I dont have enough knowledge regarding this stuffs, but in my opinion what is better for the bitcoin ecosystem must be prioritize. I'm hoping that after August 1 bitcoin is still bitcoin and the we use it will still the same, hoping transaction fee can be minimized and confirmations maybe adjusted.

It is not BIP 148 (UASF) vs Segwit. It is UASF vs Segwit2x.

The purpose of both UASF and Segwit2x is to activate Segwit, but the latter is designed to hard fork the network three months after activating Segwit.

I think most of the bitcoin users want Segwit to be activated, be it through UASF or Segwit2x. If UASF does it then there would be a chain split, but it would be good for the community in the long run, no future uncertainties. If Segwit2x does it then a split in August would unlikely happen, but I don't agree with hard forking the network, a few individuals having the power to enforce their propaganda on the whole bitcoin community, too much centralization, and forcing bitcoin through random periods of uncertainty.

If UASF activates Segwit, awesome, if Segwit2x does it, okay (they would be having a hard time getting support for their 2 MB part)

BIP148 is for the activation of Segwit, as is the initial implementation of Segwit2X in late July if that is what you are thinking of. This article may help clarify things for you:

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/countdown-segwit-these-are-dates-keep-eye/

The best outcome is for segwit to be activated on SW2X without controversy in late July before BIP148 on August 1, followed by abandonment of the SW2X software back to Core before any hardfork (given the ineptitude demonstrated thus far by the SW2X team, the short timeframe allowed for the hardfork, and the folly of letting Bitcoin fall under the control of a mining or business cartel). On 2nd thought, having BIP148 activate SW on August 1 following SW2X falling apart, and then having Bitmain fork off on August 4 and mining off into the sunset in a permanent split would be even better.

I find it nice sometimes when I read post from ordinary guys just like me who is also having a hard time grasping all the terms and their full meanings behind. I have been reading about Segwit and the rest of the stuffs for some time but still it is leaving me a black space. i then realized that maybe technical terms are really designed to hard to understand and it can take time for me to fully fathom them all. And I am not alone on this aspect.

Now, which I do I want to be activated come August 1? Thank you for that nice question, ladies and gentlemen! I prefer Segwit that will not produce a coin split but can still deal with the burgeoning transaction clogs. Now, I am hoping that they can come up with a solution that will not really rock the boat in the process.

Let us all hope that things can get better after the said date (August 1).

It seems almost certain that there will be a chain split at some point.

Either SegWitx2 will fail and UASF will happen with a minority of hash rate, causing a chain split, or SegWitx2 will succeed and there will be a hard fork to 2MBblocks three months from then.

If the 2MB hard fork is high consensus then it's not too much of a problem, but I consider that unlikely.  Personally, I also think UASF on August 1st isn't particularly relevant and is over hyped.

For other non-programmers out there who don't know what I'm talking about, read this article: https://coinjournal.net/bitcoin-now-likely-get-segwit-august-1st-avoid-chain-split/
UASF would cause a chain split if there is a minority of hash rate support, and the UASF chain will remain negligible if the majority of merchants and exchanges continue to use coins from the legacy chain.
