It is a local currency that is intended to be mainly used in France.
French citizen in possession of a valid passport are able to mint new UFR coins by scanning the NFC chip of their passports.
There are 2 methods to scan your passport:
Method n°1 using the android app - Open the playstore(
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=network.ubic.ubic) and install the app.
- Go to register my passport and enter your passport number, date of birth, date of expiry. (These information are needed in order to read out the NFC chip content).
Method n°2 using a Linux computer with a NFC reader. - Install UBIC core from the source code
