I guess if you would have went all in 2 years ago... would you be up or down now? I dunno, didn't follow the price of Ripple. Seemed too commercialized.

Ripple has 100 employees in an office in San Francisco.

It's like Meraki selling to out to Cisco for $1.2 billion in 2012 to capitalize on smartphones...
Some bank will eventually pay a ridiculously big number for Ripple...
But this will be divided up among the Prinipals and Venture Guys (not some shmuck buying XRP on Cryptsy)...
There is no legal contract that I know of that entitles the "network token" XRP to anything.

No, but if the tech were sold and utilized by banks or whomever and ultimately used by large amounts of people then demand for XRP would increase. Same idea as why 1 Bitcoin necessarily will be worth tens of thousands if we see wide adoption of the Bitcoin network. Or why is it different?

No thats the fun stuff they dont need the xrp tokens to work.
So prolly in the case if banks buy ripple they will just create a new token.

Ok, I suppose that could be true.

From what I understand XRP is the currency that has no counter party risk on the system, so they need XRP or a similarly functioning system token. If at the point when Ripple is sold to a bank, the XRP currency has value, then wouldn't it be detrimental to their reputation if they simply ditched it and created a new token? They'd essentially be wiping out the value of anyone holding it and that wouldn't really be giving a good first impression.

i guess this is a important point, it will probaly depend on distribution and worth at that time.

isn't ripple open source? can't see a bankster paying for something he can use for free. if ripple sell to a bank XRP is in the mix

i'm not a supporter of ripple but I bought some xrp just in case.

Ripple is open source anyway so banks wouldn't need to buy out the company, and even if they did, their interest in it would be for the underlying technology, not the XRP tokens.  They give zero shits about the current ripple network.  If all the banks wanted to start using it as a replacement for ACH or SWIFT, they'd just form their own internal network.  There is no mining, costs of starting their own version of the network is negligible, and the security and value of the network is not going to scale alongside the growth of the network like it does with BTC and traditional POW coins.  I think it is innovative and useful technology but I don't see XRP as a good investment.

I once believed in Ripple but when they sent me a notification that I would require ID verification to use my account, I decided to exchange my XRP back to BTC. I have the feeling that Ripple might be centralized....what do you think?  Roll Eyes

I think it is innovative and useful technology but I don't see XRP as a good investment.

So much for the ripple effect.

I think Ripple is somewhere around 75% virtually worthless to own, to 25% 'maybe'. But that's only if XYZ country has its financial system crash and needs a temporary centralized fix. In that case, you never know.

They really dropped the ball with their ethos. If I read another article that says 'Ripple fashioned themselves after/were inspired by... etc. 'Bitcoin', then I'll throw up my Shepherds pie. The two shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.

Okay, I know I just mentioned them in the same sentence Angry

Here's a good post on Ripple's potential future value and what things might need to occur, it's quite in-depth and gives a good perspective on Ripple and its future valuation, not sure it's all correct, but it's a good read...

Scroll down to the long post by 'Kaetemi':

https://xrptalk.org/topic/16-how-much-for-the-ripple-in-a-few-years/

ps: Just for perspective, know that it was written over two years ago.

It's been centralized from the get-go. Folks 'round here have been warning about that for at least two years. The government-mandated KYC slap-on does vindicate those folks and their warnings.

Its got a hell of a market cap compared to all other altcoins. I still don't get it, never bought any and don't plan to. I just don't think the corporate world and the crypto world are truly compatible.

Ripple is a corporate system with a pretty good background so I think it could be mainstream much sooner than bitcoin. Functionally it also has the potential to be comparable to the basic functions of the current NXT version (except voting), as you can issue any kind of IOUs if you have a gateway for that stuff. This means that ripple can trade basically anything: currencies, assets, or items.
