Hi,

I'm enjoying the multibit client on windows 7 and see the development in 0.5.9 - close wallet, add password etc.  - all good.

As i've donated, i think i'm ok to point a couple of things out - observations, rather than judgements - i should stress that i'm an end user - i have no tech/programming knowledge at all...

When exporting private keys, it might be an idea to say 'Export To...' rather than 'Choose Export File' - as it's the destination that you're choosing - again i should say i'm not tekky so it was a bit confusing to see that - made me stop and wonder for a minute what was being asked for...

The other thing has been raised before, which is the currency ticker not displaying GBP for MtGox - as i'm in the UK it would be nice to see this as a quick reference in my national currency...

All in all though a great client - looking forward to any new developments you have coming...

steve.

Hi Steve,

Yes I agree 'Export to ...' is simpler.

Maybe the similar import private keys button should be 'Import from ...' too.

The Mt Gox rates disappearing is a consequence of Mt Gox changing their API without giving anybody any notice. Unfortunately the change (well there have been 2 in the last month but one was fixed more quickly) is not a quick fix. They have moved from HTTP to HTTPS which causes some problems to do with the SSL certificate they have.  The XChange guys are working on a fix, which I can then pick up.

In the medium term we are going to put in our own server for currency rates to insulate users from exchange API changes which will help.

There is a GBP rate in the Open Exchange Rates exchange - I think that is the only GBP rate. That's what I am using at the moment.

I like the sound of this. How will it work exactly? Will you still take the Mt. Gox value? Or will you get it from different sources?

From the user's point of view the data will still be by exchange. It'll be the same data.

The idea is to trim the data a bit (there is a whole load of stuff from MtGox etc that we don't use). More importantly it will make it easier to implement fixes if and when the APIs change. At the moment it is a PITA because a small API change can break thousands of installed MultiBits. We'll be able to fix it on the intermediate node and the installed MultiBits won't notice anything.

It won't be soon though - it's a medium term goal to set up the currency server. For instance it will need to run on multiple machines to give some fail-over capacity.
