Even if MultiBit won't sync, as long as you can run the application, you can export your private keys. You can then import those keys into another client, or try a clean install of MultiBit and import those keys.

To export your keys:
1. Open MultiBit.

2. Go to Tools->Export Private Keys. This will cause the "Export Private Keys" tab to appear.

3. In the "Export Private Keys" tab, make a note of the export filename. Optionally, you can select a different destination.

4. You can choose to set a password on the export file for better security, or leave it unprotected for convenience. I strongly recommend password protecting that file. If anyone ever got their hands on those private keys, they'd have access to your Bitcoins, so it's important to keep the file safe. (It's equally important that you don't lose track of the export file password, because without that, there's no way to open the file.)

5. Click "Export private keys".

Before uninstalling MultiBit, you should browse to the location of the export file and verify that it's there. If you're feeling really paranoid, you can re-import those keys into your existing MultiBit installation just to make sure everything's OK. MultiBit does this test automatically when you export, though, so doing it by hand isn't really necessary.
