Hi.

My usb flash drive died and i had to send it to data recovery place and they found my wallet.dat backup but its only 16kb.

New wallet.dat file is ~100kb if i'm not mistaken?

I have to pay few hundred if i want my backup sent to me but is it worth it if the file is too small and i cant recover my btc?

I'm not 100% sure, but 16 kb should be ok. I remember a remarkable difference in file size on wallet.dats, but my memory could be failing me on this one.

You can restore files from a bricked drive on your own for much cheaper though, if you google around. I had to recover a 2 TB external HDD and I got all files back after a few days of research and waiting.

How much BTC are in your wallet though? If it's a tiny amount I would probably not even care to go through the hassle, but if it's >0,1 BTC I would try to recover the wallet myself.

Well, let's try this way.

Do you know how many keys/addresses you have on your wallet? Depending on the amount you could tell how likely it is that the file is corrupted.
