Did routine escrow mechanisms ever make it into Bitcoin?

I see that back in 2011 there was code discussed https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46538.msg583615#msg583615
to implement Escrow type features (also mentioned in Satoshi's white paper, section 1)

I cannot seem to locate this feature in the current build..but I may be missing it.
