Hy,

I was reading the newbies pinned posts and also the wallet ones. I entered the crypto world late june this year and till now made some ideas of what is going on.
Being bitcoin.com wallet, i hope this is the right place to write.

One of pinned posts being the:
[General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0#post_types

Ok. Let's talk about my problem now.

At the beginning when not knowing anything and bought a tiny amount of btc and eth i was starting it at bittrex.

I also made a bitcoin wallet downloaded at bitcoin.com. I was thinking that is the best place to try at the beginning when not knowing how things works and who to trust (i know... nobody :-), but some trust must be in a small percent to can go on).

I don't have stored yet any btc on this one. After this week readings i wanted to learn to use it better and know how to back it up and restore.
Well... went on bitcoin.com downloaded the windows wallet also.

My problem:

Now i have windows and android wallet from bitcoin.com
The android didn't worked at that time so i made a new wallet on windows, made a backup with phrase + pass + file saved.

Then i went to android wallet and cleared data then removed and downloaded again (i don't know how it works so needed to be sure to not have first one from test still active).
Pressed the Restore from backup -> Choosed Recovery phrase -> entered it then press IMPORT.

Error: Could not import: Wallet recovery phrase is invalid

Ok. Tried with show advanced options and used the pass that i made on windows backup wallet.
The same error (i also tried to scan the qr code for phrase to be sure for misspellings).

Hmm... ok i'm a newbie... but saw the option File/Text.
Remembered that i saved a file on local disk... Went there, copied only the text, sent it to phone and paste it in the app.

Voila... it worked... hmm.

What is the catch that i don't really get or i just think it may be? Why phrase didn't worked?

There is no live connection for them to sync, they just must be restored only through that file/text? Why it asks for Recovery phrase then?

When searching on web about that i found:
Release v3.7.3 · bitpay/copay · GitHub - https://github.com/bitpay/copay/releases/tag/3.7.3

And saw there Bitpay . exe  and Copay . exe.

I read now in main wallet post (from main forum), that Copay is a universal wallet and saw other talking that it is a good one. But when i reached there and saw that 2 executables didn't know which to choose. I just tried bitpay to see what is doing and saw that installs in program files and exit it. Didn't install anything.

Final questions:

1. Can i still use the "same" bitcoin.com wallet for windows and android (maybe for ios too) when is not seeing my phrase? Or is that normal and at the first install i should paste that text?
2. I don't see where is private key (in that json file saved?) - the only backup i have is that json file with pass i made...
3. Can be used the same for BCC - as it has a ticker in the recovery step

Thank you

Ok,

So I did some tests on the Bitcoin.com Windows Desktop wallet... and the Bitcoin.com Android wallet.

I created a new wallet on the Windows Desktop version and attempted to import this into the Android wallet using the 12 word seed mnemonic. It does indeed START with a different "receive" address. HOWEVER, they are indeed the same wallet... with the same addresses. It appears that the two apps are sharing information somehow (possibly via a bitcoin.com server?) that keeps track of what addresses have already been "generated"... so every time you request a new address, it finds the next "unused" address and gives you that.

However, if you go into: "Settings -> 'Personal Wallet' -> More Options -> Wallet Addresses" you will see that the addresses for both wallets are the same (assuming you have used the same seed and same passphrase).

If you were getting a "Recovery phrase is invalid" error, then you must have typed the recovery phrase in incorrectly.

Yes, after i put that text from json file it is the same address in both wallets.

But with the phrase it is my problem. And i checked the spelling several times.

Also, as i said in first post, there is an option to scan the qr from desktop wallet to have the exact phrase.
I did that to be sure that i'm not wrong with spelling it. And did not work that way too  Sad

So, it's not spelling error...

Although, thanks for testing that Wink
